Not Pitch Perfect!

Replacement Drain 

Whilst planning a new additional disabled toilet drain installation to serve a refurbishment project on behalf of a school in Wembley, North West London, we identified a no longer fit-for-purpose run of pitch fibre drainage dating back to the seventies. Pitch fibre material drainage is no longer manufactured or used within the construction industry due to its weak structural properties.

Part of our remit was to survey of the existing drainage system to assess the condition of the underground pipes into which the new drain run would connect and discharge into. The survey clearly showed that connection to the pitch fibre drain was not an option, since it was found to be severely deformed and corroded. Any discharge into this drain would have resulted in ongoing blocked drain problems.

What was due to be a relatively straight forward new toilet installation suddenly transformed into a main foul water underground drain overhaul. However, we are always prepared for any eventuality and relish overcoming a challenge. We simply re-assessed the job at hand, advising the school of the best course of action, and literally got on with it by excavating and replacing a total of 32 meters of 100mm pitch fibre drain with a new UPVC underground drain before also completing the original requirement of the new WC drainage connection.

Finally the reinstatement of surfaces, so as to leave the site nice and tidy, was still completed within the specified 5 day timeframe coinciding with the schools half term.
