Attending an ongoing drain problem at a property in Hammersmith, West London we were presented with a particularly deep foul water manhole inspection chamber that was the location of recurring blockages within the domestic drainage system.

Having cleared the initial blockage it was evident that concrete from the construction of the chamber had overspilled and was never removed and remained to impede the channel and restrict the diameter of the discharging underground drain invert by 70% causing solids to build up and subsequently back up the entire drainage system on a regular basis for many years.

The concrete had to be removed by entering the chamber to solve the problem as there was no alternative method, although not a pleasant task within the same visit our engineers were able to assess the risks involved and safely enter the chamber in strict adherence to confined spaces regulations. By deploying our gas detection monitor, fall arrest winch and tripod set up to enter the chamber we successfully removed all of the offending concrete leaving the channel and discharge drain restored to full working capacity.

Having had the drains at their property unblocked on numerous occasions year after year by other companies, the couple who owned the property were extremely happy to finally have the issue resolved, especially in one visit.
